GULF RESTORATION NETWORK NEEDS YOUR HELP ON AUGUST 29TH!
Can you believe it has been almost four years since Hurricane Katrina and then Rita rocked the Gulf Coast? One clear message in the wake of these storms is that New Orleans and South Louisiana need to have natural storm defenses, like wetlands, barrier islands and cypress swamps to keep the area safe. Due to a national need for dependable shipping and flood control on the Mississippi as well as oil and gas production from the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana loses a football field worth of wetlands every 45 minutes. Gone. Turned to open water, and making New Orleans more vulnerable to future Katrina-like events. Even after the flooding of New Orleans we have seen very little progress on rebuilding wetlands to restore Louisiana's coast and protect communities. The band is working with the non-profit group, the Gulf Restoration Network, to help remind the nation, Congress, and the Corps of Engineers that we need to restore Louisiana's wetlands now! There is no better time than August 29th. Can you host a home screening of the powerful documentary, Paradise Faded: The Fight for Louisiana?
