âUntil the Day Is Doneâ, among the new songs rehearsed by the band at their five night stand in Dublin earlier this summer, will debut on Anderson Cooper 360° on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in advance of R.E.M.âs spring 2008 release. The song will be matched to clips from CNNâs Planet in Peril, which features footage from areas around the world where environmental crises are not just theories but are happening in real time. In addition to being used during the program, âUntil the Day is Doneâ will also play over the documentaryâs closing credits.
Coinciding with its debut on Anderson Cooper 360°, the video trailer will be available at the Planet in Peril section of CNN.com. The four-hour documentary airs in two parts on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. (ET/PT) and will air worldwide on CNN International in more than 200 countries and territories.
âWith Planet in Peril, Anderson Cooper and his team have done an amazing job capturing global eco-devastation,” said Michael Stipe of R.E.M. âThe images in the film are beautiful, while at the same time heart-breaking and frightening. We are honored to have our song included in this monumental project.”
Planet in Peril brings viewers the stories behind the statistics, as CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Animal Planet host and wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin focus on four main issues that threaten the planet and its inhabitants: climate change, deforestation, species loss and overpopulation. Planet in Peril was filmed in 13 countries over nearly a year.
R.E.M., fresh from a three-week session with Garret “Jacknife” Lee in Athens, has just completed recording their 14th studio album which will include âUntil the Day is Done.”
