44th Anniversary of Recording with Mitch Easter in Winston-Salem, NC

Today marks the 44th anniversary of the day R.E.M. first went up to Winston-Salem, NC to record 3 songs with young producer Mitch Easter: Radio Free Europe, Sitting Still and Wh. Tornado at Mitch Easter’s Drive-in Studio in Winston-Salem. It was released on Hib-Tone Records three months later and things were off and running!

Peter remembers:
“Forty four years ago Mitch Easter initiated us into the magic of recording. Everything we have done since then stems from Mitch and those three days. Thank you my friend”

Bill had some pleasant memories of those early days too:
“His mother was very good about keeping many donuts on hand at the drive in studio in her garage.”

Mike recalls:
“It was a time of Old Dogs and crickets, of recording techniques new and old, and of new friends beginning the journey to lifelong ones”

And Michael speaks for all the guys, and many others!
“Love to Mitch from all of us!!!”
