Long held by critics and fans alike to be one of the top albums in rock and roll’s varied and illustrious canon, R.E.M.’s Automatic For The People turns 15 this week (released Oct 5, 1992 in the UK & Oct 6, 1992 in the USA), and in celebration of this milestone, stereogum.com has put together a fantastic Automatic mini-site,DRIVE XV, featuring downloadable songs (free!) by a diverse and impressive cast of bands, an excellent essay by R.E.M. historian/fan club member Matthew Perpetua, plus liner notes from the bands taking part in the project (see track list below) as well as R.E.M.’s own Mike Mills.
