Michael Stipe Among Artists Featured in PALS of Athens Musicians Pillow Doll Series

An entrepreneurial sewing class in Athens, GA, has shown some serious creativity in making special pillows of Athens musicians including one of Michael Stipe.

Women to the World, an international nonprofit Christian service organization committed to improving the lives of poor women and children in Afghanistan, Kenya, Turkey and elsewhere, operates the PALS Institute at the Rocksprings Community Center building in Athens which includes GED classes for women, computer skills classes, and a sewing class led by UGA professor Emily Blalock.

Blalock’s husband, Brett Blalock, has sketched drawings of some of Athens favorite rock musicians, and these drawings are used to produce the PALS of Athens Musicians Pillow Dolls. The dolls are hand-crafted by the women of the PALS Institute and can be ordered at their website. Artists included in the Pillow series are Michael, Patterson Hood, Kevin Barnes, Claire Campbell, and Dave Schools. According to the Athens Banner Herald, pillows will be sold at concerts, festivals, and through local retailers in addition to online.

This is a very worthwhile cause we hope everyone will consider supporting. Please visit PALS of Athens Musicians Facebook page for more information.
