Last show of the European tour in Bristol. I’m posing by the blue plaque denoting that this was Vivian Stanshell’s boat. Vivian was the singer and conceptualist behind the Bonzo Dog Band. Later he did a series of songs, radio plays, and films about Sir Henry Rawlins, an old British lord. At the end of his life he bought a boat and put on a series of demented vaudeville shows, which included song, dance, comedy, and quite often drunken rants at the audience. And it is that boat we are playing on tonight, the Thekla. I worry about lots of stuff when I’m on stage, but having the venue sink under me isn’t common. -Peter
