Remember seeing NRBQ opening for R.E.M. on the Green tour? I do! Well, we all still love “The Q,” and all musicians must love Sweet Relief Musician’s Fund, the exceptional organization that’s been helping musicians deal with debilitating medical bills for decades now. When I heard founding NRBQ member Joey Spampinato was in need of assistance, I knew that Peter and Mike would be quick to join in with The Minus Five to help out. We picked out a Joey rock’n’roll stomper, “Don’t She Look Good”, and tried to give it the appropriate unbridled treatment. I played guitar, piano, and sang, with Peter on guitar, Mike on bass and harmony vocal, Joe Adragna on drums, and Death Cab For Cutie’s Dave Depper taking the lead solo. It worked! And the rest of the album is killer too, don’t you worry about that. You get Los Lobos, Bonnie Raitt with NRBQ, Al Anderson, Ben Harper and Keith Richards, She & Him, etc. etc. Do yourself (and Joey) a favor and pick up “Party For Joey”!
