From REM Timeline’s Facebook Page:
The first and only European Tired Pony show was a real treat,
with Gary Lightbody leading a band that sprawled across the stage, starting off with a shimmering ‘I Don’t Want You As A Ghost’, before having guest turns on backing vocals starting with Bronagh Gallagher notably on ‘Get On The Road’, through to Mr Mike Mills joining on ‘Point Me At Lost Islands’.
Here was a band with a new & different 2nd album, really giving the new songs a real lease of life live, with Peter’s guitar work really standing out & the addition of a ‘choir’ behind them (featuring Chloe Johnson amongst others) really lifting the new songs to a new level.
Later in the set, Tom Smith joined Gary on ‘The Good Book’ – then we were treated to a ferocious ‘Punishment’ & Kim Topper joined on the set closer ‘Your Way Is The Way Home’.
Not to be outdone & with the crowd wanting more, the Ponies came back & treated us to two more songs – which included all the members of Snow Patrol of stage fleshing out the songs.
So you lucky people in New York (& probably Los Angeles) – get along and see the Ponies, as the new songs sound so much better live & you will not be disappointed!
