TONY CLIFTON GRACES ATHENS…

Sometime R.E.M. nemesis Tony Clifton makes a rare appearance in Athens tonight at the Georgia Theatre on Lumpkin St. The band last saw Clifton at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in 2003 where he attempted to body slam Michael and pour water on the band. Michael was rescued by Peter from the grips of a disillusioned Ciifton who had shamefully accused R.E.M. of stealing his headlining slot at the Hollywood Bowl and of being unprofessional for not wearing tuxedos on stage… The last we saw of Mr. Clifton, who made an appearance on the soundtrack for “Man on the Moon,” was the back of a pink jacket, a toupee, and a blur of security guards leading him offstage that night.
