Consequence of Sound has posted a video of Michael and Patti Smith’s walk-in performance at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on December 19th, the date on which they paid homage to French writer Jean Genet’s 100th birthday: Michael’s is a cover of David Bowie’s The Jean Genie (itself an homage to Genet) while Patti’s is an improvisation of moments from Genet’s biography. You can watch the clip here and also read MOMA curator Klaus Biesenbach’s comments at the MOMA website.
Michael, Peter, Mike and REMHQ would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Patti for receiving the 2010 National Book Award in the non-fiction category for Just Kids, her coming-of-age memoir of life, love, and artistry in New York City with soul-mate Robert Mapplethorpe.
Be sure to catch Patti at the Bowery Ballroom on Friday, December 31st as she wraps up a three-night stand at the landmark New York City venue.
