WEEKEND ROUNDUP: PROJEKT R.E.M., FIND OF THE WEEK, PETER BUCK, DOCUMENT OUT LATER THIS MONTH

Projekt R.E.M.: Pure Energy Music, the new U.S. Embassy music project in Slovenia, is out today! The project features 16 songs by popular Slovenian artists–Siddharta, Elvis Jackson, The Tide, N’toko, Vlado Kreslin (backed by Croatia’s The Bambi Molesters), Zoran Predin paired with Massimo Savič, Melodrom, Severa Gjurin, Murat & Jose, Narat, Lollobrigida, My Buddy Moose with Chris Eckman, Polona Kasal, Mia Žnidarič and Steve Klink Trio, and The Toronto Drug Bust–covering tracks ranging from the early 1980’s right up to material from 2011.

Projekt R.E.M. is dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues, and will highlight the work of many Slovenian environmental groups. A major, free concert at Kongresni trg coincides with the release of the project’s music CD today September 8. Read more about the initiative here.

DOCUMENT REISSUE COMING LATER THIS MONTH

The band has teamed up with Capitol/I.R.S. for the September 25th release of an expanded 25th Anniversary Edition Document. The new edition features the digitally remastered original album, plus a previously unreleased 1987 concert from the Work tour. Read last month’s press announcement here.

PETER PLAYS WITH JOSEPH ARTHUR

Peter recently played a show with Joseph Arthur at the City Winery in New York City where they performed a number of tracks at the intimate venue. In the meantime, Consequence of Sound reports on Arthur’s recent woes regarding his touring van which was towed and auctioned for a misunderstanding over parking tickets: “Arthur has turned to his guitar and written an ode alongside Kraig Jarret Johnson about his humbling situation. Aptly titled “Where Is My Van”, the alternative acoustic strummer was recorded on a dictaphone …” Check out the cameo appearance by Peter at the very end!
