15 years ago today, Amnesty International released Instant Karma: The Campaign to Save Darfur featuring 23 covers of John Lennon songs by various artists (U2, Green Day, Snow Patrol, The Flaming Lips, et al.) including R.E.M.’s version of “#9 Dream” from Lennon’s 1974 LP, Walls and Bridges.
The album and individual tracks are still available to buy on various online platforms to help support Amnesty International’s noble work. It is Amnesty’s highest earning single global fundraising project in the 61 years of the organization’s history. For more information about Amnesty International please visit their website.
