JEM COHEN… PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST

Jem Cohen, award-winning filmmaker, long time friend, and collaborator with the band on a number of their videos over the years, has a plethora of projects in the works at the moment according to Gravity Hill. Check out links to Jem’s work below and watch his video for “Oh My Heart” from the band’s last record, Collapse Into Now:

A series of polaroid photographs and an imbedded 16mm short film (Night Scene New York) are online in the NY Times.

The short film, NYC Weights & Measures, remains on display at the Jewish Museum through March 25 (as does the extraordinary show, The Radical Camera: New York’s Photo League, 1936-1951).

In Toronto, a five-screen installation version of the Gravity Hill Newsreels Series about Occupy Wall Street is up at TIFF Lightbox through March 23. There are now twelve newsreels, the first five of which played in the fall at the IFC Theater in New York and can be seen at vimeo.com

An essay, That Particular Atmosphere: Robert Bresson…in Praise of Disquiet, is in the new, revised edition of Robert Bresson (edited by James Quandt, published by the Toronto International Film Festival Cinematheque).

Also currently in the works, a film live music show, We Have an Anchor, to premier at EMPAC, in late April.

Finally, Jem is now approaching the home stretch on a new feature film, Museum Hours. Find out more at jemcohenfilms.com.
