R.E.M.’s art director par excellence Chris Bilheimer has two design exhibits opening this weekend in Athens. On Friday night, Chris will be part of a three-man multimedia show at Cine called “Blackboards and Smokebombs.” This show, including work by Dan Donahue and Lance Bangs, will feature 175 of Chris’ Polaroids some of which were used as covers for R.E.M. singles. Opening reception starts Friday at 6:30pm followed by a video screening at 8pm. Saturday night, ATHICA plays host to a retrospective of Chris’ voluminous and amazing body of design work ranging from t-shirts, posters, record covers, and other miscellany. The show opens 11/13 at 7:30 p.m. This is not to be missed if you’re in the area.
