WEEKEND UPDATE: ART, PHOTOS, THEATRE, AND THE TALE OF ONE CITY

The reissue of Two Times Intro: On the Road with Patti Smith has been one of the main topics around HQ this week. We’ve got a really informative interview with Michael posted here thanks to the murmurs.com crew. Also, Akashic Books in NYC is offering a special limited pre-order for the book; the offer, limited to 200, includes a beautiful autographed photo of Patti Smith by Michael. Read all about it here.

(please note: the response to the special pre-order of “Two Times Intro” has been extremely robust, so if you want to get one of the few remaining, please hurry…)

Michael’s Art In Tokyo

As we noted earlier this week, Michael has an art installation on display at the Vacant Gallery in Tokyo. His installation is part of a group exhibition called “Act Like You’re Fine” curated by photographer iO Tillett Wright. The exhibition opens today at the Vacant Gallery, 3-20-13 Jingumae Shibuya, Tokyo. Read more about the exhibition and Michael’s thoughts here.

Laura Levine’s Exhibition Continues

Congratulations to friend and photographer Laura Levine whose work and ongoing photographic exhibition “Musicians” was recently featured at the Newyorker.com. Her current exhibit runs through August 19th in New York City. Check out a photo gallery from the show and read more about it here.

Georgia Theatre: Back in Business

Finally, we wanted to congratulate our friends at the Georgia Theatre in Athens on their successful reopening on August 1st. After the devastating fire which nearly destroyed the Athens landmark, the Theatre is again open for business. The Drive By Truckers are headlining Friday and Saturday night, so if you’re in town, come on by.

Last but not least, our good friend Michael Lachowski, artist extraordinaire and bassist for Pylon, is quoted extensively in a thoughtful article at flagpole.com about the music scene in Athens. Check out “A Tale of One City” at flagpole.com.
