Saturday night’s celebration of Big Star’s seminal albumTHIRD in New York City featured performances by both Mike and Michael, who, along with Jody Stephens, Chris Stamey, Mitch Easter, and Matthew Sweet, were among the all-star lineup of musicians at the Baruch Performing Arts Center’s Mason Hall. Michael sang vocals on “Kangaroo” (along with Brett Harris) as well as vocals and hairdryer on the Box Tops smash hit “The Letter” while Mike sang “Jesus Christ” and shared vocals with Matthew Sweet on “September Gurls.” The night benefited three organizations: the New Orleans Musicians Clinic, Corona Youth Music Project, Queens, and Kidznotes Durham.
