The summer tour continues to gain momentum this weekend moving through Manchester tonight (see setlist below), Loch Lomond Saturday, and Dublin on Sunday. Earlier this week, the band returned to Sheffield and Glasgow for makeup gigs at Hallam Arena and Glasgow Green, underneath the biggest outdoor big-top tent on
The band will dedicate a song at its June 19th concert in Dublin, Ireland, to the world’s only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Aung San Suu Kyi. The song will be broadcast via satellite television inside the Southeast Asian country of Burma, where Suu Kyi is held under arrest.
When we had to cancel the shows due to Mike Mills’ illness back in February, we were lucky to have a break planned for this week so that we could slot in the Glasgow makeup and the Sheffield makeup; the only problem in Glasgow was the unavailability of the S.E.C.C.
We have had quite a week. Here are some highlights, by the numbers:

R.E.M returned to action this evening in Rome at the Stadio Olimpico. The band will play the Heineken Festival in Imola, Italy, tomorrow night and will then travel to the UK for a headlining slot at the legendary Isle of Wight Festival. Stay tuned for updates…

R.E.M is confirmed to play Bob Geldof’s Live 8 concert on July 2nd; The concerts, scheduled for Berlin, London, Paris, Philadelphia, and Rome, are aimed at drawing attention to the need for political justice for the world’s poor and will occur a few days before the G-8 leaders hold
R.E.M is in Gijon, Spain, for a show at the Complejo Deportivo De Las Mestas. Tonight’s opening band is Fabula.

After Wednesday night’s summer tour opener in Granada, in which the band kicked off the concert with jaw-dropper/show stopper “Leave” from “New Adventures in Hi-Fi” for the first time ever, R.E.M stands poised for a big weekend in Spain with shows coming up in Torrevieja, Zaragoza, and Gijon.
